What Makes Urgent Care Harder Than a Practice

A physician practice sees booked patients at known intervals. An urgent care center sees whoever walks through the door, and a lot of them arrive with something contagious. The waiting room may hold two people at ten in the morning and twenty at six in the evening. Exam rooms are used back to back with minutes between patients rather than a scheduled gap.

The Waiting Room Is the Priority
In a medical practice the exam rooms carry the clinical risk. In urgent care the waiting room carries a great deal of it too, because people with respiratory infections sit in it for extended periods.
